People all over the world decorate their new babies room before they come home. And there are many different ways that you can do that. Some countries base their decorating off tradition, and others that decorate the rooms with things that are said to bring babies good luck and healthy lives. You can even get things like blue baby bottles to help match your newly decorated nursery. With all these different ways of decorating you have so many different choices to make. A lot of times you will be gifted all your room needs like crib, changing table, and bedding, this is specially true if this is your first child.
If this is the case the best thing you can do is register with a store so that people that are buying you these things can go to that store and basically by the matching set of furniture. This is convenient for them because they don’t have to take the time to think about what they are going to get for the baby when it does finally come. It is convenient for you as well because you get all the furniture to match, if you didn’t register people might shop at different stores and get you totally different type of furniture. This would make decorating the room kinda hard because non of the furniture would match.
After that is taken care of you can think about what kind of theme you want for the room itself. There are many different themes that you can choose from, a lot of these themes can work for either a boy or a girl and only really go one way or the other with the colors you choose. You can make the room an underwater theme, with fish, and all other types of aquatic animals, you can go with a jungle theme and go that way with it as well. There are so many different choices that you can pick from.
Once you have decided on a theme you need to go back and start picking colors. Here is where it helps if you know the gender of the baby. You don’t want to go with boy colors if you are having a girl and vice verse. If you are planning on having it a secret you can always go with neutral colors like greens and browns and so on. Those colors are not gender specific and will make finding a color a lot easier. The ultimate neutral color, generally, is yellow. Yellow also gives off a bright and sunny vibe, which the baby will probably like. Which isn’t to say they wouldn’t like other colors as well, so much as warm colors have an instinctive effect on the human psyche. Yellow, for example, reminds us of the sun, blue reminds us of water, and pink may remind us of flowers. You are getting feelings associated with these colors from an early age, so naturally, you will want to decide what type of feeling you would like to impart on your child. Pink won’t necessarily negatively effect a boy baby, but when they get older, you might have to repaint at their demand.
Here is a list of some of the different types of themes you can go with, you can vary them to your liking and even personalize them to your child or family.
Jungle themes can be many different set ups, most of them involve using bright earthy colors like browns, greens, and blues. These colors are usually for the backdrop of the jungle, and you can add other brighter colors with different types of animals that you put in the theme. Many people use a combination of painting animals on the wall into the jungle background, and using stuffed animals that go along with the jungle theme. Many of the more popular animals are birds and other wild cats because they involve a lot of bright colors. Reds, Blue, Yellows, Orange, and other bright colors can used for the animals. The good thing about these are that they aren’t used through out the entire scheme so the room isn’t made up of a lot of bright colors, which gives the room a more calming feel, rather than a jumbled jungle of jarring bright colors. Here are some pictures of different set ups of jungle themed nurseries. There are many great accents that make this room look really good, see how the animals on the wall look happy and friendly. That is a good touch so you don’t scare the children when they see them. This is a great room because they used things like the leaves, and ladder to make the scenery look almost 3d. I like how it looks like there is a tree house and how it will make the child feel like they are there. It may also encourage the child to want a treehouse later in life, or to want to spend more time outdoors, which is generally a healthy thing. See how the monkeys and other animals are looking out into the room, it gives the feel that you are there and that they can actually see you. This room also has relatively few loud, stand out colors – with the exception of the orange tiger – which gives the room a subtler, mellowed out vibe, and doesn’t overload the acute senses of the baby.
Is another theme that can use a lot of bright colors as accents, bright colors aren’t generally used as main focus’s of the room because they can be a distracting for the babies to be able to sleep. Soothing colors like browns, blues, greens, grays, and mixes of all these can be considered soothing. With underwater themes most people make the bottom half of the room underwater and then transition it to the sky where you can have birds, and maybe dolphins jumping out of the water. These are really popular because you can add matching things through out the room to emphasize the ocean scene. Just like the jungle theme you can paint the fish and other animals the bright color so they don’t take over the room. Here are some really good nurseries that have been made into the ocean theme. With these great soothing colors it will be easy for this baby to be able to fall asleep, and all the animals add just enough color to the room to make it look cute. The cut outs that you can put on the wall will give the ocean a 3d effect, and make it feel like you are there. The cut outs are surprisingly easy to create, to put up, and to take down, so long as you don’t use the wrong adhesive. Ultimately, this is an easier project than painting the actual objects on the wall, as you can often buy the cut-outs elsewhere and place them on the wall, yet it still looks just as good.
Traditional and Modern Theme
Modern themed rooms are generally gender specific, pinks are for girls and blues are for the boys. These can also be really nice rooms because of all the choices that you have when picking colors. Traditional themes usually go back to dating, if you like the look of a traditional colonial nursery you can get accents with a lot of lace and other things that date back to colonial days. A lot of places make stuffed animals and dolls that resemble some that you would find back then. Here are some nurseries that have the look of colonial traditions, and modern traditions that you see around the home. This nursery uses many modern elements, and it still feels like it is a nursery. With the use of wallpaper, and all the frilly lace and colors, this can easily be dated back to the colonial times. Notice that, though this is the complete opposite of the picture above, this is still a very warm, calming feeling nursery. That, in the end, is all that really matters. You want the nursery to be less jarring to the baby. Here is a nursery that would be considered very modern. It uses the contrast of dark and bright colors with modern furniture. This room is extreme, but it is also traditional with the pumpkin wagon from old fairy tales and the pink colors. This would be a really fun room to play in for a girl.
You have hundreds of options for the style of your room. They can, as you’ve seen above, be excessive wonderlands of delight for children, or they can simply be a single color, a crib, and some carpet and toys. Mobiles are never a bad idea either. The colors are pretty easy to decide on as well. Generally, you want to go with pastels and light colors, something that is calming. That said, often, the baby will associate the colors in their room at a young age as the colors that DO calm them, regardless of what they are, but you should still choose colors judiciously. Just remember that it’s really up to you what the room is going to look like, just remember to use soothing colors if you can. And that if you end up not liking the way the room is going you can always change it. If you need more ideas on baby nursery decorating ideas you can always look on the Internet.
